Log | Kijiya Volume 12 Is Here

 

... Sort of. So if you guys remember last week, I was on the hunt for the 12th volume of Zint's Kijiya series and honestly I was stumped. I couldn't find it anywhere; websites, online shopping platforms and social media through popular hashtags so I've reached out to GempakStarz again to get some leads on where I can get it. Perhaps their staff hide one or two copies in their drawers but instead, they told me about eSentral; the biggest e-book platform in Malaysia. Of course, I just had to hop onto the platform and explore their options.

While I'm probably the last person in this country with a smartphone who didn't know aboute-Sentral, you guys can check out the app right on Play Store and I've installed mine in my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. The first book I bought? Of course, it's right there in the title of this post; Kijiya Volume 12! Yay!

 

I'm so elated to finally come to the end of my quest to complete this comic series! Congratulations, Zint!

I'm also happy to find Ben's The Fishes by the way! My physical copy was lost somewhere; probably grew some wings and flew out of my shelf, I don't know but this e-book will do for now.

Log | Completing Zint's Kijiya Comic Series

 

As I started sorting through my comic collection sometime last month, I've realised I've missed out on numbers of volumes for Zint's Kijiya series and I've found some pre-loved volumes on Carousell but even then I was still missing Volumes 12 onwards. 

So, being someone who's regularly on social media especially Instagram, I've discovered GempakStarz official Instagram account and tagged them on my Stories; I was looking for the missing volumes and boy, they responded the very next day saying they have volume 14 and 15! After a pleasant transaction and a week later, my order got delivered in that cute box so that's awesome! I actually bought extra volumes as you'd never knew whether these volumes will be reprinted later in years or not so I'm just grabbing what I can right now therefore at this point, I have extras for volume 5, 9, 14 and 15 now.

Since it's still Eid season, they kindly included Raya packets although we aren't giving out any this year as there's no visitors anyway so I'll keep them for Eid in 2025, maybe? Anyway, I'm so happy with this purchase and I'm still hopeful of getting the 12th volume so wish me luck!

Log | Sorting My Comics

 

So yeah, I was sorting my comics that apparently were all over the place at my house in my hometown and also at my apartment so all of these are wrapped and ready to be sealed until the next time I decided to read them again. As you can see when it comes to Malay comics, I only got these from GempakStarz and I've been collecting these since 2006 I think? 

Anyway, I mostly collect works from Kaoru, Zint and Ben while they're with GempakStarz; I honestly don't really what's their status as of 2021 and I just found out that the magazine has been discontinued. Sad.

I loved Ben's works ever since I've read his 2005's work titled The Fishes which unfortunately has been stolen from my personal library at home. Not surprising as the last time I was home sorting these comics was like 2010.

Fatal Chaos was the one series that Ben worked on around the time he was quitting GempakStarz and I've heard the last volume from the series was done by the studio and necessarily by the mangaka himself. I'm not sure and please don't quote me but definitely tell me if you have reliable source on this.

I've been following Kaoru's works about the same time as Ben's and I remember picking up her 2007's comic titled Kaoru's Cake House and then my obsession towards her published works just went spiraled from there and I began collecting more comics published and I'm a huge fan of this Maid Maiden series.

Zint is probably one of the biggest artist GempakStarz have and my younger brother is a huge fan of his works therefore by extension me as well. I read his early works like his 2002's Under 18 which goes on for like RM200 on Carousel (crazy!) and I'm fairly entertained with the Kijiya series especially now that I'm onto a lot of shounen works. Although I just found out that Kijiya has already ended at volume 15 and I was missing like half of it so I tried scouring through some sites to get new or pre-loved copies before I can properly finished reading the series. I still have one volume which is the 12th one so I'll keep you guys updated on that sometime next week.

Log | Sealing Off My Comics

 

Although it's only going to be a semi-sealed as I left the top part of the plastic wrapper opened as I still want to do another marathon especially for this comic series by Kaoru. Boy, I need some new published work from her as it's been awhile since I last gotten any of her recent comics or wait, is GempakStarz magazine still running?

Do you do this too? I'm going to get some more for my English novels and other reading materials that I won't be re-reading anytime soon.
