‘Abang’ Domino’s Speed and Agility Conquers 1,296 Steps In First Ever Tower Run | Domino's Pizza

We did it!: 'Abang' Domino's with their Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019 finisher medals.

Hustling on their feet is part of the job and they truly love it! Going beyond their everyday routine of delivering pizzas to their customers, Domino’s Pizza delivery riders demonstrated their speed and determination as they conquered the first ever Yayasan Telekom Malaysia (Yayasan TM) International Tower Run 2019 recently. Four strong-willed ‘Abang’ Domino’s took up the challenge of 200-meter elevation climb with 54 floors and a total of 1,296 steps up the Menara TM, Kuala Lumpur!

Ramachandran A/L N. Jayappalan, fondly known as Rama, scored the best time among the Domino's team at the Yayasan TM International Tower Run 2019.

Speeding up the tower, Domino’s rider and athlete Ramachandran A/L N. Jayappalan, known as ‘Abang’ Domino’s Rama, scored his best time at 10 minutes and 24 seconds, and was ranked 39th out of 442 participants in the Men’s Open Category.

Muhammad Luqman Hakim, best known as ‘Abang’ Domino’s Man was ranked at 135th, scoring his personal best time of 13 minutes and 58 seconds.

Proud half marathoner Mohd Zulkarnain, fondly known as ‘Abang’ Domino’s Ezzu completed the run in 14 minutes and 29 seconds.

The dashing Hafiz Adnan, nicknamed Apis, ready as ever to take on new challenges that come his way!

Hafiz Adnan who is also known as ‘Abang’ Domino’s Apis beat the clock with his personal best at 23 minutes and 47 seconds.

“Having the opportunity to take part in the first ever tower run is definitely a unique and memorable experience for me. It is even more meaningful as I am participating with my Domino’s brothers. Daily work of delivering pizzas requires us to be fast on our feet and we embrace being active as part of our lifestyle as we carry out our duties of delivering good, fast service to our customers. While running up with our Domino’s signature thermal insulated pizza delivery bags, we imagined it was as though we were delivering pizzas to our special customers. This kept us leaping and jumping up the steps!” said Ramachandran.

An Evening with Chef Emmanuel Stroobant and U.S. Potatoes

Potatoes USA presents 'An Evening With Chef Emmanuel Stroobant and U.S. Potatoes', an exclusive cooking demo session by the celebrity 2-Star Michelin chef at The Pavilion, Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort. Invited guests had an enjoyable session watching the chef in action and trying out his scrumptious US Potatoes dishes. Also present was Indra Balaratnam, Consultant Dietitian and Founder & Owner of Indra Balaratnam Nutrition who gave a talk on the nutritional benefits of US Potatoes.

Hailing from Belgium, Chef Emmanuel Stroobant’s career began at a tender age of 16 with the cleaning of dishes in one of his country’s best restaurants. At 23, he opened his first restaurant in his hometown, Liege.

 

After travelling the world, he made a life-changing decision by heading to Asia. His maiden stop was to Kuala Lumpur in late 1997 and was awarded the ‘1999 Best Expatriate Chef’ by World Asia Media. In that same year Stroobant and his wife Edina moved to Singapore to yet again experience another unchartered episode. Their first restaurant, Saint Pierre became the only Singapore member of the world-renowned Relais & Châteaux, the prestigious association of the world’s finest hotels and restaurants; and has been awarded 1 Michelin star by the second edition of Michelin Guide Singapore in 2017.

Indra Balaratnam is a consultant dietitian who has 22 years of experience in the field of nutrition and dietetics. She runs her own private practice, where she helps her clients to eat healthier. Indra holds professional memberships in the Malaysian Dietitians’ Association, where she is a Past President (Year 2011/2012); member of the American Overseas Dietetics Association (AODA) affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics of the US.

Indra shared with us the fact that potatoes are actually very nutritious. Potatoes are naturally fat free, cholesterol free, and low in sodium. In addition, potatoes are an excellent source of vitamin C, and those eaten with the skin are a good source of potassium. Foods that are good sources of potassium and low in sodium, such as potatoes, may reduce the risk of high blood pressure and stroke.

Ms Indra also shared that although many people these days are worried about their carbohydrate intake, carbohydrates are one of the key nutrients in performance nutrition. Athletes engaged in high volume and high intensity training require adequate amounts of carbohydrates for energy. U.S. potatoes are an example of an excellent source of carbohydrates. They are rich in vitamin B6 and C, potassium, folate, fibre and antioxidants. “They are extremely versatile and filling, making it a convenient source for athletes” she elaborated.

Organizer Potatoes USA is the marketing organization for the 2,500 commercial potato growers operating in the United States. They promote five main good quality potato products: fresh table-stock potatoes, fresh chipping potatoes, seed potatoes, frozen potato products and dehydrated potato products.

 

The night ended with a lucky draw with prizes sponsored by Shangri-La Tanjung Aru followed by a meet & greet session with Chef Emmanuel Stroobant.

What a fantastic event it was as indeed it was actually the first time for me attending cooking demo and Chef Emmanuel was very much entertaining while preparing the dishes! Also, I am so glad that I actually learned so much about potatoes (definitely an eye opener to someone like me who only know to fry them!) thanks to the guest speaker, Ms. Indra! Almost 1 year ago, I attended my first event as part of Sabahan Blogger community and that very first event was held by Domino's Pizza; celebrating their official entry to East Malaysian market and today, the brand has launched a first of its kind pizza! Now, some of life’s hardest decisions revolves around deciding what to eat when you are with your friends and family and Domino’s has developed the ideal solution to the everyday million-dollar question of ‘what to eat?’

The first of its kind by Domino’s Pizza, the Quattro includes four popular, top favorites on one pizza which comes in two sizes, large and Xtra large. Based on our research, these are the top four pizza flavors that customers consistently opt for. This makes up approximately 50% of chosen pizzas by our customers on a monthly basis.”

“A lot of care has been placed in creating the Quattro pizza. As you can see, it is not easy to create a single pizza with four flavors. To ensure that we maintain the level of consistency throughout all our stores, many hours were invested in training our pizza makers. This was essential in order for them to master the art for Quattro and to efficiently craft a delicious Quattro pizza for our customers. In line with our brand promise ‘It’s All About You’, we strive to cater to what our customers love by creating a new and exciting experience for them. We hope our customers will enjoy this simple yet satisfying Quattro pizza.”

For a limited time only, customers can opt for either the large or Xtra large combo, comprising of two Quattro pizzas with free extra cheese, from RM59.90 and RM82.90 respectively, from September 30 onwards. Alternatively customers can opt to add on side orders to their meals with the Quattro Basic Combo and Ultra Combo, priced at only RM42.50 and RM58.50 respectively. Customers can also enjoy the Fabulous Four combo deal that features four favorite sides for only RM19.90.
